Birthday Notes

Letter to My 30-Year-Old Self

IMG_7663Dear Thirty-Year-Old Self,

You recently celebrated your 30th birthday and are now entering some of the best years of your life, however hang on tight because it’s going to be a very fast, crazy, sometimes heartbreaking, yet exciting ride. Just keep this advice with you wherever you go, no matter what problems come your way…. you can handle it and you will come out stronger!

When I think about the last so years of your life, there are so many experiences that you’ve been through, good and bad, that have shaped you as a person. It’s funny to think that you have a whole new set of experiences ahead of you. It’s also a lovely thought that some of the best days of your life haven’t happened yet.  This she BELIEVES!

I don’t care much if you’re married, if you have any children of your own or if you’ve adopted children yet. But! That’s not what 30 is. It isn’t about check-boxes of what you have done and have not done. I care that you live in the present, care for the people you love, nourish yourself and bath yourself in love. As long as you are happy, healthy and you still call your mama every day, then I will always be proud of the adult you have become. I love that you’re living in your truth. And remember, being an adult does not mean you cannot feel as free-spirited as you are when you were young.

At 30 you have realized more than anything that when we live, we don’t live for ourselves, but for those around us, those who need us most.

I’m in love with the woman you have evolved into over the years, the strength, resilience and thirst for more growth that pumps you up every day.

Presently, you’re struggling with anxiety about the next level, the next step for the future; a movement onto the next best thing before you’ve even completed or absorbed the first best thing. You’re stressed, but you don’t need to be. In all the mixed emotions and frustrations with wanting to do it all, you are perfect just the way you are.

I’m not worried about you at all. I know you’re doing just fine. You’re exactly where you need to be. I pray your life is one of wisdom, youth and adventure and you aren’t held back because of the new number. And that you don’t rush into things because it feels like time is slipping by. I pray you do what’s right for you. Hold on, Slow down and breathe in. Your age is your age but more importantly your life is your life.

Do not change your journey so that it matches someone else’s. We need to walk different paths so the whole world can be explored. Revel in the differences and enjoy where you are Deborah.

Keep crushing it,

Your 30 Year old Beautiful self.
